Bosnian youth is no longer leaving the country for economic reasons but because of the lack of trust in institutions and because of enormous corruption, Bosnian Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak said in Stockholm on Monday addressing a ministerial conference on the Western Balkans.

Speaking about Bosnia’s path to the European Union, Crnadak said it was important for Bosnia to have governments formed at all levels as soon possible, so they can start implementing the European Commission’s recommendations.

Also, Crnadak said it would be important if the European Union took a different stance and made a distance from all non-democratic and non-European activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The European Union tolerated in the past the judiciary’s inefficiency in (fighting) corruption, winning the votes in elections on basis of threats and blackmailing of voters, taking control over the public RTV broadcasting service by some political parties and it (the EU) made some similar, wrong compromises,” said the minister pointing out that some recent researches have shown that the main reason why the youth is leaving the country are no longer economic reasons but the lack of trust in institutions and enormous corruption.

“And because in such non-democratic environment they don’t see a future for themselves and their children,” he added.

As for regional cooperation, the minister assessed it was of crucial importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina to continue putting efforts in creating the best possible relations.

Crnadak invited Pristina authorities to abolish 100 percent import tariffs they introduced for Bosnian goods in November last year, stressing that this was “the strongest attack on regional relations over the last ten years.”
