Croatia's representatives in the European Parliament are great friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its strong advocators, MEP Zeljana Zovko said in N1's Novi dan programme on Wednesday, expressing concern over current developments in Bosnia.
She said she was worried about the state of affairs in the country and the failure to form the authorities several months after citizens voted in the general election.
“These are all concerning and threatening circumstances in Bosnia and Herzegovina, pushing the country away from its European path,” she said.
According to her, Bosnia is not prepared yet for the European Union but the bloc needs to “play its role” in the country and be prepared for Bosnia.
“It will be prepared thanks to all parliamentarians who come from the countries that border southeast Europe, because they know very well what turbulent southeast Europe means. I think Europe must play its role here. That's why we're focused on the topics concerning Bosnia and Herzegovina. Everyone wants stability on its borders. Those are the topics worrying all European citizens,” said MEP Zovko.
Formation of authorities is a top priority for Bosnia, according to her, so the country can resume its European path.
As for the stance of French President Emmanuel Macron, who expressed doubts about further enlargement, Zovko said this was a stand for French voters ahead of their local elections.
“After the speech of Mr Macron in the European Parliament I expressed my own reserves about his statement that there should be no enlargement. That's one firm stance that goes for the French internal use. Local election is about to be held in France, where Macron lost its popularity, and with the topics such as security he is playing it safe, he's not speaking of the enlargement because the enlargement requires one strong courage and vision,” explained Zovko, a Bosnian ethnic Croat representing Croatia in the European Parliament.
