A fence separating two schools under one roof in the central town of Travnik - a common occurrence of segregation among students of different ethnic backgrounds in the country - has been removed, local news portals reported on Saturday.
“Travnik citizens are overjoyed,” the ‘Travnicki.info’ portal reported.
Bosnia is known for its ‘two schools under one roof’ phenomenon. Children are separated based on ethnicity and have separate curriculums that differ mainly regarding history and languages.
The issue made waves recently after a couple posted a wedding photo on Facebook which shows the newlyweds facing each other in front of their schools as they are separated by the fence.
Travnik citizens have for a while been asking for the fence to be taken down and for the years-long division in schools there so stop.
