Protest '1 in 5 million' continues in Belgrade

For the 31st consecutive Saturday, Belgraders gathered in the city’s centre to protest against the rule of Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic and his ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), N1 reported.

This night’s rally focused on what the people and the opposition said was the city’s authorities attempt to take control of the sports centre’s swimming pool in the Dorcol area.

The particular point was an unusual interruption a few days ago in the live programme of two TVs, state RTS and pro-government Pink TV, both with national frequency, when a man mentioned the Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic, criticising him.

Both journalists told a Stari Grad municipality opposition councillor Uroš Markovic  “we’re not talking about that now.”

He said he overheard the instructions from the studios,

Markovic told the crowd on Saturday that “today, the Belgradres live “as hostages” in “a rural Disneyland” created by Goran Vesic.

“I’m not going to allow them to take over the ‘Milan Gane Muskatirovic’ swimming pool to give it to their ‘most advanced bots’ and friends,” Markovic said.

Following the speeches, demonstrators went for a protest walk to the central police station to ”remind the police of their job to protect the laws, a not individuals from the authorities.”
