Bosnia shares the same geographical area with the European Union (EU) as well as the same challenges and the same hopes, said the head of Bosnia's state government Denis Zvizdic, in the congratulatory note to the newly appointed President of the European Commission Ursula von den Leyen.
“I am particularly happy that someone so devoted to strengthening of the European values of unity, equality, solidarity, security and prosperity has come to the helm of the European Commission,” said Zvizdic, formally Chairman of Bosnia's Council of Ministers.
“All countries in the Western Balkans expect that integration of our region in the European Union will remain one of the priority goals. We are looking forward to our future cooperation and I assure you that, like in the last four years, we will be your true partner dedicated to European principles and standards, to the regional cooperation, peace, stability and economic development,” he added.
The European Parliament on Tuesday elected German Christian Democrat Ursula von der Leyen the new President of the European Commission.
She received the votes of 383 MEPs, while 327 were against and 22 abstained. One ballot was invalid. In order to become the new Commission president, von der Leyen had to win at least 374 votes.
