Mostar's Faculty of Engineering presented on Tuesday its second 'student race car' which will take part in the international 'Formula Student' competition in Italy this week, alongside the students from all parts of the world.

It took more than two years for the students to assemble the race car but what they have now, according to team supervisor Mario Dragicevic, is unique in Bosnia.

“We created the new race car on the platform of the previous one and we are so grateful to the first Formula Student FSRacing Team because we wouldn't be able to finish the whole project if it wasn't for them,”

FSRAcing Team of the Mostar University departs to Italy on Tuesday and they will present their faculty, university and the country in the competition ‘Formula SAE’ which kicks off on Wednesday.

‘Formula SAE’ is a student design competition which involves the departments of engineering of universities worldwide and is organised by SAE International, formerly known as the Society of Automotive Engineers.

It arrived in Europe in the early 2000s, based on the American model which made its debut with the first edition in 1981, said the organiser's website.

According to Dragicevic, it is a huge success to make it through the first stage of the competition and pass the technical examination, which Mostar students did.

“The competition which consists of several stages will among other things evaluate design, innovation and the race itself, and we hope to be competitive with the countries taking place in the event,” he added.

Filip Sabljic, FSRacing team leader, said the new car is a lot lighter than its precursor.

“We made it lighter by some 80 kilos, and another new thing is a diffuser that is a part of the aerodynamic package, which wasn't part of the first race car. We used many carbon fibres, which is a speciality because this is usually not done in our country but we studied it, learned it and implemented it,” Sabljic explained.

He added that some 60 teams will take part in the competition within three categories.

Faculty dean, Zeljko Stojic, noted that this group of students proved the whole university educates young students who are capable to make a new value out of nothing.

“Our students showed and sent a message to us in the faculty and the university but also to all people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially young people, that everything is possible with work,” said Stojic.
