Bosnia has restricted imports of poultry products from Turkey, Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Minister Mirko Sarovic said on Monday.
He explained the decision was made to protect Bosnia’s industry.
“This decision refers to exporters in Turkey who are not on the EU list, which means they don’t have a permit to export into the European Union, and it has the goal of protecting the status of Bosnia and Herzegovina which can since recently export its poultry products into the EU,” he said.
Although Bosnian producers can satisfy the domestic demand and even export poultry products, the country has been importing tons of poultry from foreign countries, including Turkey.
Bosnia’s poultry industry has significantly developed throughout the past year, and only in 2018 the country exported more than 9,000 tons of poultry and processed products to regional countries and now it also began exporting to the EU.
