Serbia’s Agriculture Minister Branislav Nedimovic said on Tuesday that the African swine fever was under control and that there were no new cases, N1 reported.

 He added that the contagion would not delay the vaccination against the classical swine fever due in October.

Nedimovic said he would negotiate with countries which banned the import of pig meat from Serbia to ease the restriction in the next ten to 15 days.

“The situation with African swine fever is under control and was registered in only the villages. No new cases are reported,” Nedimovic said.

He added it was important for people to know about the decease since “every single sick pig is dangerous for the whole population.”

The presence of the virus was confirmed by the Agriculture Ministry last week, quoting the findings of a laboratory in Madrid.

Nedimovic then said that every possible measure was taken to stop the outbreak.

Experts have warned that there was no cure for the African Swine Fever and have put down pigs on neighbouring farms.
