A peaceful walk 'Traditional Family Day' that was organised as a response to the first Bosnian Pride March, set to take place on Sunday, gathered several hundred participants on Sarajevo's main streets on Saturday.
Carrying the banners that glorify “traditional family” the marchers conveyed messages saying that “the baby falling asleep in your arms is the most peaceful feeling in life” and “a father can do nothing more important for their children than to love their mother.”
Association Light (Svjetlo) which organised the event said that the goal of the peaceful walk was to point out the “naturalness” of the traditional family from the scientific and religious point of view, the historic persistence of traditional family in Bosnian society and the value of family as a basic cell and pillar of society.
“Our message to you is that you keep your families safe from the negative influences that might damage its moral and traditional values. By building a healthy family we build a healthy society which ensures the survival of our peoples on these territories, and also the future of our homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said one of the participants.
The walk is taking place a day before the first Pride Parade in Bosnia and is taking the same route that the activists and supporters of the LGBTIQ population will take on Sunday – from the Eternal Flame memorial to the State Parliament's building.
Another event has been announced for Sunday, also as a response to the Pride March. The Association ‘Inicijativa Iskorak’ set the meeting at 10 a.m. at a nearby park and will express their opposition to the Pride March in a peaceful walk from Alipasina Street to Sutjeska Street.
The police and security forces are taking necessary measures to have all the events announced for this weekend pass in a peaceful manner.
