Photo of two girls heading to school goes viral

A photo of two girls on their way to school, published on social networks the last week, has become viral, although its author could not even guess that this might happen.

There is nothing unusual about the photo of two girls, students of the third grade at a local elementary school in Bosnia's northern town of Prijedor.

But, only at first sight.

The photo description is the first to draw attention.

“One of them is the daughter of an Orthodox priest, the second one of a (Muslim) imam. They meet every day at 12:15 at the same place to go to school together. The world of children bears no burden,” wrote the author of the photo, Omer Redzic, who is the local imam from the post.

Such photo usually wouldn't get to the news, but in a war-torn town, which is slowly recovering from the horrors of the war and striving to reconciliation, it was dubbed the photo of the year.

“I didn't want it to get so much of media attention,” Redzic said briefly for N1.“Let's share some positive news, as much as we can.”

“People didn't expect they would hang together, everyone expected that we wouldn't allow them to be together. They meet every day in front of the central mosque at 12:15 and go to school,” he said.
