Bosnia's State Prosecutor's Office issued on Tuesday an indictment for migrant smuggling, charging one person for transporting the illegal migrants over the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina in return for money.
Among the foreign nationals who were illegally entering Bosnian territory were also children.
Miralem Merdzanovic, the citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina is suspected of transporting 25 nationals of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, in September 2018, taking them to the city of Tuzla, north of Sarajevo, but was prevented from reaching this destination after police discovered the van in the Ugljevik municipality.
According to the indictment, Merdzanovic breached a protocol that amends the UN Convention against Transnational Organised Crime, with an aim to gain illegal material profit.
He is also charged with breaching the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The indictment has been forwarded to the Bosnia's State Court for confirmation.
