Some 1.1 million tourists stayed in Bosnia in the period from January to August 2019, which is 11.5 percent more compared to the same period last year, the State Statistics Agency said, Tuesday, adding that they also mare 2.3 million overnight stays, which is also an increase compared to last year's measurements, by some 9.9 percent.
The number of overnight says by local tourists is also up 7.1 percent, while the number of foreign tourists was 11 percent higher compared to the same period last year. Local tourists made 27.2 percent of the total number of overnight stays, while foreign tourists made 72.8 ercent of the stays.
When it comes to the structure of overnight stays of foreign tourists, the highest number of overnight stays were made by tourists from Croatia (11.9 percent), Serbia (8.3), Saudi Arabia (8.2), Slovenia (5.0), Italy (4.9), United Arab Emirates Emirates (4.8), Germany (4.7), Turkey (4.6), China (4.5) and Poland (4.1), which is 61 percent in total. Tourists from other countries made up 39 percent of stays.
In terms of the length of stay of foreign tourists, Malta comes first with 4.4 nights, Iceland with 3.5 nights, Kuwait with 3.4 nights. Ireland with 3.1 nights and the United Arab Emirates with three nights.
When it comes to the type of accommodation facility, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded in Hotels and similar accommodation with a 92.1 percent share.
