'Germany is Bosnia's most important foreign trade partner'

Germany is Bosnia’s most important foreign trade partner and export to the country is continuously increasing, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Mirko Sarovic, and German Ambassador Margaret Uebber said at a meeting on Wednesday.

Trade between Bosnia and Germany is worth four billion Bosnian Marks annually and Bosnian exports cover 75 percent of imports from Germany, Sarovic said, calling it “an excellent result for us, considering that Germany is economically the leading country in Europe.”

He also explained that Bosnia exports finished products to Germany, not raw materials.

“Our companies are working and producing. It is important that we have shown that we can compete in this large market with our products,” he said.

Sarovic and Uebber agreed that such positive trends should be followed up by increased German investments in Bosnia.

“This is a very important issue because there is a lot of interest from German investors to invest in our country, but they are seeking a favourable atmosphere for investing, stability and predictability of doing business,” Sarovic said.

“It has been shown that wherever the influence of politics is greater, the economic indicators are weaker, and that needs to change,” he added.
