Most migrants are in the northwestern Una-Sana Canton, near the border with Croatia. Several migrant reception centres have been set up in the area, but capacities are full. Citizens in the towns in the area have been complaining about the “onslaught” of migrants on the streets.

The temporary migrant centre Vucjak was set up to decrease the number of migrants in urban areas.

But the United Nations and European Union expressed concern over the plan, arguing that the conditions in the camp do not meet humanitarian standards and that the area could potentially leak harmful gases.

Local authorities have stopped providing financial support for the camp and are now looking for a new place to accommodate the migrants.
