Dodik: No migrant centres will be set up in Republika Srpska

No migrant reception centres will be set up in Bosnia’s Serb-majority region of Republika Srpska (RS) and those overseeing the peace process in Bosnia cannot decide on that, Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik said on Friday.

He made the statement after the Interior Minister of the northwestern Una-Sana Canton (USK), the area of the country most affected by the migrant crisis, said a day earlier that foreign officials have promised USK authorities that new migrant centres would be set up in both of Bosnia’s semi-autonomous entities.

The USK minister also said that the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) – a group of representatives of countries which oversee Bosnia’s peace process – would soon discuss the migrant crisis in Bosnia and that it would make a decision on the matter.

“There is a decision by the Government in Republika Srpska that no migrant centres will be set up in its territory and that’s how it will be,” Dodik told journalists in Banja Luka.
