MP: Milanovic's election in Croatia is a good thing for Bosnia

The election of Zoran Milanovic to the Croatian President post is a good thing for Bosnia and Herzegovina because “at least he is an antifascist”, but this does not mean that all the issues between the two countries will be resolved, House of Peoples lawmaker Zlatko Miletic told N1 on Thursday.

“Milanovic has matured as a politician, although he has faults like all of us do. But I believe that the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia will start improving, at least because he is an antifascist,” said Miletic, a member of the left-leaning Democratic Front (DF).

He said he based this opinion on some recent statements Milanovic made but added that just because a member of Croatia's Social Democratic Party (SDP) was elected, that does not mean that all of the issues between the two countries will be resolved.

“We must remember that during the times when (Stjepan) Mesic and (Ivo) Josipovic were in power the most important thing for Bosnia and Herzegovina was also not done – which is for Croatia, as well as Serbia, to sign an agreement on the state border with Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he said.

“Until this is done, and that is their obligation according to the Dayton Peace Agreement, it is apparent that there are pretensions for this country to remain in disorder,” he added.
