The region of Western Balkans will be during the next several months in the focus of the European Union more than ever before, the bloc's ambassadors told Oliver Spasovski, North Macedonia's Prime Minister in Skopje on Thursday, the Beta news agency has reported.

North Macedonia's Government statement said it was confirmed in the meeting between Spasovski and the EU ambassadors that the enlargement would be among top issues on the bloc's agenda.

“We are grateful for the support and messages of the political leaders of your countries that the date for opening the accession negotiations between Skopje and Brussels should be set and that the enlargement is high on the EU's agenda,” Spasovski said.

The ambassadors praised Spasovski's cabinet for continuing the reforms and the dialogue with the opposition, as well as its commitment to good neighbourly relations, agreements with Greece and Bulgaria and the fair elections.

That, as the diplomats said, was important for North Macedonia's and regional stability and Skopje's integration with NATO and its road toward the EU.
