Brussels is ready to help Bosnia and Herzegovina get the candidate status during this year but the country has to do its part of work, speaker of Bosnia's House of Representatives Denis Zvizdic told N1, speaking from Brussels where he is attending a meeting of the Western Balkan parliaments' speakers with the European Parliament representatives.
Zvizdic departed to Brussels with Dragan Covic, the House of Peoples Speaker, where they joined the parliamentary speakers from Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, to discuss European prospects for the region.
They are set to meet European Parliament President David Sassoli, among other officials, and Speaker of the Parliament of Croatia, the country currently holding the rotating Presidency of the EU Council.

“As far as Bosnia and Herzegovina is concerned, it is important for us to solve a few priority issues by the Zagreb summit in May this year, which include the integration programme for Bosnia and Herzegovina, adoption of the rules of procedure for the parliamentary board for stabilisation and association, adoption of laws in the judicial sector, law on public procurement, national mechanism to prevent tortures and abuse, strategic framework for the public administration reform, and so on,” said Zvizdic, adding that the issues must first be solved in the Council of Ministers and then in the Parliament.
Prior to the summit, the speakers of Bosnian Parliament's upper and lower houses held a series of meetings with the European Union's top officials, including the Neighbourhood and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, European Parliament Special Rapporteur for Bosnia and Herzegovina Paulo Rangel, and Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard.
