A flash blizzard which struck Bosnia Wednesday evening has cut off the eastern Bosnian town of Sokolac and surrounding villages, cutting them off completely fem the rest of the country and cutting their power and water supply, N1's Slavisa Starcevic reported on Thursday.
A sleepless night is behind Sokolac residents and the surrounding villages, the town mayor Milovan Bjelica said for N1 adding that the most important thing is that the snow stopped falling so they can clear the roads and re-establish power supply.
“We have over 100 substations that are out of power. Central parts of Sokolac have been cleared this morning and we restored power there. We also started clearing the snow to get to Biostica water spring so we could re-establish the water supply. Our biggest problem is that we don't have running water at this time. We managed to preserve the central heating system in Sokolac,” he told N1.
He added he hopes all villages will be unblocked by Thursday night.
“'Romanija roads’ company has been clearing the roads all night. We'll continue repairing the substations and clearing the snow to get to villages where there are people who need medical assistance. All the surrounding villages are currently blocked by snow,” Bjelica concluded.
The blizzard was preceded by hurricane winds throughout the country. Trees were torn from the ground in Sarajevo and Mostar, and a facade was torn off from a Mostar building.
