Attendees of a carnival in the southern city of Mostar set ablaze on Tuesday a puppet they named 'bullfrog', a resemblance of Bosnian writer and current ambassador to the Czech Republic, Martina Mlinarevic, local media reported.

“When you think you've seen it all…and went through all. They set me aflame in Mostar,” the writer wrote on her Facebook.

Mlinarevic has often been a target of threats and insults on social media, mostly by Croat nationalists who see her as non-patriotic and a traitor, as she is a frequent critic of nationalism. While she is one of the best-selling Bosnian writers of today, Mlinarevic gained popularity with left-leaning citizens from all ethnic groups in Bosnia for her overt criticism.

Her appointment as Bosnia's Ambassador also sparked the reactions amongst the same groups, who claimed she was not qualified and that she allegedly possessed no academic degree to hold the post.

Following the incident, when a puppet named after one of Mlinarevic's best-selling books ‘Bukaca’ (‘bullfrog’) was set on fire, the writer responded by saying ‘thank you, brothers’.
