Bosnia’s State Court acquitted on Tuesday Gavrilo Stevic who was accused of joining pro-Russian paramilitary formations in Ukraine, the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) reported.
Prosecutors alleged that Stevic crossed the border to Serbia in July 2014 and departed to Moscow from the Nikola Tesla airport in Belgrade. From there, he allegedly travelled to Rostov-on-Don in Ukraine and joined the ‘Jovan Sevic’ paramilitary group.
The indictment said he worked at checkpoints, checking vehicles and people passing through and earning 500 Euros a month for it.
According to judge Branko Peric, however, prosecutors did not manage to prove the accusations beyond a reasonable doubt.
The ruling can be appealed.
