The latest information from the Health Ministry confirmed that two new cases of covid19 or coronavirus infection were registered on Monday afternoon, bringing a total number of people positive to the virus to four in Serbia, with the first one registered in Belgrade where the opposition demands the state of emergency, while the Government bans people from some countries from entering Serbia, N1 reported.

Until March 10, in the National Torlak Institute, a total of 108 people suspected of being infected have been tested.

Since Monday, five people were tested, three proved negative while two were positive with covid19.

Later on Tuesday, Serbia’s Government decided to temporarily ban foreigners from areas with ‘more intensive coronavirus transmission’ to enter Serbia. The ban applies to people who were in Italy, some Chinese provinces, South Korea, Iran and parts of Switzerland.

The first case of Serbia’s citizen being infected was registered on March 6 in northern Serbia, while the second was a Chinese national who lives and works in Belgrade.

The opposition group the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) requested from the Mayor Zoran Radojicic to declare the state of emergency in the capital after the first confirmed case of a man infected with coronavirus in the capital on Monday.

The Alliance has again demanded from the Republic’s and City’s authorities to cancel all indoor events in Belgrade due to coronavirus.

However, Serbia’ Prime Minister said over the weekend that “there will be no cancellations of major events and rallies because of the current situation regarding the coronavirus.”

SzS appealed to all citizens to follow the World Health Organisation’s recommendations since Belgrade authorities did not even meet to discuss the situation, “while they should be in permanent session.”
