Although the city has no recorded COVID-19 patients, Sarajevans followed the example of Italians and applauded on Wednesday evening from their windows and balconies, showing their gratitude to health workers and their efforts to prevent the outbreak.

Citizens of nearby Gorazde followed suit.

With nearly 40 people tested positive in the country, Bosnia has closed schools, restaurants, cafes, shopping malls and cultural and sports events in hope to keep citizens at home.

Very few people can be seen on the streets while police are knocking on people’s doors, checking whether those sent by doctors into self-isolation are home.

The country is still awaiting a mass outbreak while the medical staff is trying to prepare for it as much as possible.
