Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the death of a woman who posthumously tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to the prosecutor's spokesperson.
The women died on Tuesday, and the coronavirus infection was confirmed after her death, which sparked comments and reactions about her treatment in healthcare institutions.
Spokesperson Azra Bavcic said the authorities will review the circumstances of the death and that no more details could be unveiled at this point of the investigation.
According to Mehmed Kulic, the Head of the Sarajevo Canton Healthcare Centre, it was not possible to determine a link between the patient's health issues and coronavirus, and that she was treated as a patient with respiratory problems.
Also, he stressed, the health workers were not familiarised with the patient's possible contact with someone coming from the countries severely affected by the virus.
“Such cases can happen in our communities and that we learn exceptionally important information afterwards,” said Kulic.
