The Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) announced that the Church will not interrupt the liturgy or cease communion with the faithful, "because it is a non-negotiable matter" and announced that there will be a deacon with priests and sacristan in the temples during worship.
All the faithful over the age of 65, as well as those with weaker health and immunity, are urged to refrain from coming to temples for worship in the coming days and weeks thus putting themselves out of harm's way, the SPC said.
The faithful are advised to observe the service via television and radio broadcasts and church websites, and to make timely arrangements with their parishioners for the “term of communion in their home.”
Other practices, especially baptism, the SPC pointed out, should be postponed until the normalization of the situation, “and when urgently needed, to adapt them to emergency procedures.”
There should be as few attendees at funerals as possible, the SPC said in a statement.
