COVID-19 UPDATES: Five Bosnian students in Czech Republic tested positive

18:50 Five Bosnian students studying at the Czech city of Olomouc have tested positive for Covid-19, Bosnian Embassy to Prague said Thursday.

The students live together in a dormitory and their test results came in Thursday. The Embassy said they were all immediately moved to the part of the dormitory that was transformed into a temporary isolation room where they are under observation of medical staff.

18:03 Another 14 people have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Mostar University Clinical Hospital.

Seven are them are from Citluk, four from Mostar and three from Jablanica.

17:36 A COVID-19 patient who was treated at the local hospital in the northwestern town of Bihac passed away on Thursday afternoon, bringing the death toll related to the coronavirus crisis in the country to 16.

10:15 A COVID-19 patient who also suffered from several chronic disorders died Wednesday afternoon, healthcare authorities in the northern city Banja Luka said Thursday morning. Also, eight more persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the northwestern Una-Sana Canton (USK) and 14 more in the southern Herzegovina region, bringing the country's tally to 512.

Of the 34 tested patients in USK, eight turned out positive, according to healthcare minister Nermina Cemalovic, who stressed that all the patients had close contact with confirmed cases and were self-isolated.

In Herzegovina, six tested positive in Siroki Brijeg, five in Citluk and one each in Mostar, Jablanica, and Grude.

09:27 A patient who was hospitalised at the Sarajevo's interstitial lung disease clinic Podhrastovi died as a consequence of the coronavirus infection, Sarajevo University Clinical Centre general manager Sebija Izetbegovic told N1 on Thursday morning.

The patient's seriously deteriorated health condition caused the death, according to Izetbegovic.

Bosnia has recorded 512 COVID-19 patients by Thursday morning, with 20 who fully recovered and 15 fatalities.

08:17 Health authorities of both Bosnia's semi-autonomous regions reported 31 new coronavirus infections Thursday morning, 24 in Republika Srpska (RS) and seven in the Federation (FBiH), bringing the country's total near 500.

According to RS Health Minister, of 194 tests that were performed over the past 24 hours, 24 turned out positive. 17 patients come from the region's largest city Banja Luka, three from nearby Laktasi, and one each from Gradiska, Prijedor, Sipovo and Kotor-Varos.

As for FBiH, one whole family from the central town Vitez tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Sarajevo University Clinical Centre confirmed Thursday morning.

Along with five patients from Vitez, two more from the Sarajevo area also tested positive, bringing the country's tally to 490.

Bosnia also recorded new infections among the medical staff. 

Sarajevo clinical centre general manager Sebija Izetbegovic told N1 Wednesday evening that four employees of the Gastroenterology Clinic tested positive for the new virus, which led the hospital management to close the clinic.

The central Sarajevo's Vrazova hospital also confirmed the infection among its employees.

Bosnia and its neighbouring countries have continued exercising special measures that were introduced to combat the virus and its further spread, including the restricted movement of citizens, self-isolation, social distancing as well as curfew in Bosnia and Serbia.

As a result of an agreement between the two countries’ authorities, Croatia will temporarily close 20 local border crossings with Bosnia as of April 2, 7 am to restrict the movement of people.
