Police are looking into an incident which happened in Banski Grabovac, near Petrinja, where Ustasha graffiti were sprayed on a monument commemorating Serb victims of an Ustasha atrocity committed there at the end of July 1941.
Sisak-Moslavina County police said they had investigated the incident in the memorial park in Banski Grabovac, after which the graffiti, sprayed over the Easter holidays, were removed.
The monument was erected in 1958 at the site of an ossuary containing the remains of Serbs killed by pro-Nazi Ustasha forces in that area at the end of 1941.
Banski Grabovac is mostly inhabited by ethnic Serbs as well as by Croat returnees, and local residents say that this is the first such incident in the village after the 1995 liberation operation “Storm”.
