Restrictions on travel need to be lifted as soon as possible, keeping in mind that discrimination based on citizenship should be avoided, European Commissioner for Justice, Consumer and Gender Equality Vera Jourova said on Wednesday.
During a regular weekly conference, the EU's executive body discussed tourism, which is one of the sectors most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
In order to enable the recovery of the tourism sector, the college of commissioners believes that travel restrictions must be lifted as soon as possible while avoiding any form of discrimination based on citizenship and having in mind the epidemiological situation, Jourova said after the meeting.
She added that the idea of a Covid-19 passport that would be valid in the EU for tourist arrivals and departures, had not been discussed.
She announced that the European Commission would present incentives to help the tourism sector and guidelines for individual modes of transport in mid-May .
