Kazani – the 'kettles' of the Zeljeznica river (PHOTO)

The Zeljeznica river, at the foot of Treskavica mountain near Sarajevo, is rich in rapids and whirlpools and has formed a narrow canyon where, at one point, the water seems like it is boiling.

The most attractive part of the canyon is considered to be Kazani, where the water dug out round hollows into the riverbed throughout many years. The hollows, or so-called “kettles”, are between half to one metre deep and between 0,30 cm and 0,70 cm wide.

Although Zeljeznica is fairly polluted since it cuts through the most populated and industrialised part of the country, Kazani represents an important tourist destination.
