Two more members of Bosnia’s PEN Centre have left the association on Tuesday over a letter condemning the recent commemoration Mass for those killed in Bleiburg in 1945 at Sarajevo’s Sacred Heart Cathedral.
According to Bljesak.info, Dragan and Mladenko Marijanovic left the association after six others, including former head, Zeljko Ivankovic, and one of the founding members, Miljenko Jergovic, did so over the May 9 statement.
“We believe that the idea of organizing a commemorative Mass in Sarajevo for the fascists and their sympathizers who perished during the withdrawal of fascist and Nazi forces towards Bleiburg is shameful for this city and this country,” said the letter published on the PEN Centre website, signed by a number of members.
In his request to be erased from the list of members, Dragan Marjanovic argued that the discussion which has emerged since the announcement of the Bleiburg Mass is something the association should not have anything to do with.
