EU Delegation: Authorities across Bosnia need to share burden of migrant crisis

Authorities on all government levels in Bosnia need to find a way to share the burden of the migrant crisis and work together to find long-term solutions at the state level, the EU Delegation in Bosnia told N1 in a statement on Monday.

“Since early 2018, the EU has provided almost €60 million either directly to Bosnia and Herzegovina or through implementing partners to address the immediate needs of refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants and to help the country to strengthen its migration management capacities,” the statement said.

“All the authorities in the country need to find ways for burden-sharing and work together to find long-term solutions at the country level,” it said.

The EU Delegation also said that the EU appointed an expert, at the request of Bosnia, to work with the country’s Security Ministry toward putting together a country strategy on migration.

“The EU expects that all the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina will take the necessary measures to ensure that humanitarian and security rights of the migrants will be respected,” it said.
