Over the past 24 hours Croatia has confirmed a record 116 new coronavirus cases, the national Covid-19 response team said on Friday, the highest number of new cases in a day since the beginning of the outbreak in late February.

The number of active cases is 1,038, including 104 hospitalised patients, four of whom are on ventilators, and two persons have died, the team said in a press release.

Since February 25, when the first infection was recorded in Croatia, there have been 3,532 coronavirus cases. The death toll is 117 and 2,377 patients have recovered.

Currently 4,608 persons are self-isolating. To date 91,486 persons have been tested, including 1,722 over the past 24 hours.

As some of the hotspots in recent says reportedly involved events such as weddings, as of today all gatherings of more than 100 people have to be reported to the local emergency centre 48 hours before the event begins, and a record of everyone attending the event must be kept.
