The first comic about the genocide in Srebrenica, ‘Presli su’ (They have Crossed), by Admir Delic and Samir Karic, was presented last night at the Emmaus International Youth Work Camp in Potocari.
According to one of the authors, Samir Karic, many young people from Bosnia, Serbia and Turkey have shown interest in the comic.
“We thank Emmaus for the opportunity to present the comic in Potocari. It is very important that the memory of the genocide in Srebrenica is maintained through various art forms, especially those that could bring the greatest crime committed in Europe after World War II closer to young people,” he told the Fena news agency.
“We believe that it’s necessary to involve as many young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world as possible in activities and projects that remind of the genocide,” he said.
He emphasized that it is especially important to present these facts to youth outside Bosnia and Herzegovina so they can continue spreading them in their countries.
Karic explained that the comic, which has also been translated into English, introduces young people to a part of the Srebrenica Genocide in a simple way.
The story follows a 15-year-old boy, Ahmed, who is walking from Potocari to liberated territory on foot together with his father and thousands of other civilians.
Ahmed survives an execution by firing squad in Kravica but his father is killed in the forest.
