The ground floor of Sarajevo's landmark 'Eternal Flame' building will in the near future become the European Union Info Centre, owing to the decision of city authorities to lease the premises to the European Union's Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“This is one of the most important decisions of the City of Sarajevo. We assessed it would be good to have 2,000 square metres that we can service, the rest would be rented. One part of the premises will still be used by the Sarajevo Canton Finance Ministry and part of the ground floor will be used by the EU,” said Mayor Abdulah Skaka, stressing the political dimension and message of having the seat of the City of Sarajevo and the EU at the same place.

The building is centrally located on one of the capital's main street, the Marsal Tito Street.

Skaka also said the significant part of the building's restoration will be funded by the EU.

“Contribution to various goals of both Sarajevo and our state are the EU Delegation's project which make the essential investment into the future of the country. The City of Sarajevo is taking part in a number of the EU projects, which is a step forward in the implementation of future development plans and the activities aimed at positioning Sarajevo as a leader in the country,” said the city administration.
