Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) entity should, once again, impose a ban on the movement of migrants and their transportation via public transportation until the situation in the north-eastern Una-Sana Canton (USK) improves in this regard, Canton's Prime Minister Mustafa Ruznic said during entity government session with prime ministers of entity's 10 cantons on Monday.
“I said that one of the conclusions [of the session] should be to reintroduce the order banning the movement of migrants in the Federation entity and their transportation by the means of public transport, because the current situation in the USK, the uncontrolled influx of migrants, has equalised the number of people in migrant camps with the number of illegal migrants on the streets of Bihac and Velika Kladusa,” said Mustafa Ruznic.
The government of the Bosniak-Croat shared FBiH entity held an emergency session on Monday to discuss burning issues facing its 10 cantons regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the worst his cantons apart from Sarajevo, which has consistently had the highest infection rate in the country was the USK which has been the country's migrant hub, due to its vicinity to the Croatian border.
Ruznic pointed out that the canton currently has some 7,200 migrants, 3,500 of whom are in migrant centres and some 3,700 are roaming the streets.
Sarcastically, he said that “the entire country is managing the migrant issue very well, meaning that the smaller entity (the Serb-dominated Republika Srpska which covers 49 percent of the country) and nine other cantons manage it by relocating migrants to the USK area.”
Ruznic noted that they have been pointing to this issue since 2018 when over 24,000 migrants came to this entity, of which only 3,500 spent the winter there.
