Activists organising Bosnian Pride March asked Sarajevo authorities to lit up the city's three landmarks in rainbow colours, and show the support to and solidarity with the LGBTIQ community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Although the walk has been postponed, the organisers of the Bosnian Pride March work through a number of activities to emphasise the visibility of the LGBTIQ community in Bosnian society,” said the activists, who addressed their demand to Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka last week.
They hope that the Sarajevo City Hall, the Eternal Flame Memorial and the Hum Tower, which oversees the large parts of the city, will shine in the rainbow colours on the evening of August 22 to the next day, when they are preparing online content that will be presented in the upcoming days.
“Competent institutions have been showing solidarity with jeopardised and marginalised communities and cities by illuminating these landmarks. Illuminating the public areas is a clear political message that makes the solidarity of official institutions visible and public,” the organisers said.
Bosnian capital saw the first LGBTIQ Pride march in September 2019. Although the second event was announced for August 2020, it has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
