Forty-seven new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Slovenia after 1,110 tests performed in the last 24 hours, the country's government said on Monday as epidemiologists remained concerned about the surge in the number of cases in recent days.

The number of confirmed cases since the start of the outbreak in early March has now reached 3,749, with 866 currently active cases. Forty people are being treated for the new virus in hospitals and nine of them are in intensive care.

There have been no coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours, so the country's death toll remains at 135.

The number of cases identified in the last 24 hours is lower than in previous days when about a hundred were registered on a daily basis, albeit after considerably more tests done. On Sunday, 99 new cases were reported after 1,793 tests performed, and epidemiologists fear that the growing trend in the number of new infections and hospitalisations will continue in the following days.
