Bosnia’s Commission to Preserve National Monuments has on Tuesday decided to declare a necropolis containing medieval tombstones (stecak) and old Muslim tombstones, located in the central town of Kresevo, one of Bosnia’s official National Monuments.
The necropolis was rediscovered in the medieval royal town in September 2019.
It was presumed to have disappeared during the 19th century when it was allegedly filled with stones from river beds and covered with a layer of hummus due to levelling and turning into plough land.
