The bridge over the Sava River near Sremska Raca, included in the construction of the highway Belgrade - Sarajevo project, will be built in two and a half years, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia said on Monday.

Serbian Minister Zorana Mihajlovic visited the construction site on the bridge with representatives of the Turkish company “Tasyapi”, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Bosnia’s Serb-majority semi-autonomous entity Republika Srpska (RS), Djordje Popovic, Bosnia’s Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrovic and Turkish Ambassador to Serbia, Tanju Bilgic.

The vice president of the company ‘Tasyapi’, Emre Tomkam, stated that the works are going great and in accordance with the deadlines, as well as that the construction of this bridge represents a connection between the two nations.

“We feel honour and responsibility towards Turkey and Serbia, but also towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, and we hope that we will fulfil our obligations and complete this bridge,” he said.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Serbia, Tanju Bilgic, called it the most important project so far.

He noted that the beginning of the works last year was attended by the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“It's time for this project to be completed because we have no more time to lose. Together we have put a lot of effort into turning this project into a success,” Bilgic said.

He expressed full confidence in Bosnia and Herzegovina to complete this project as soon as possible, noting that his term as ambassador is ending but reassuring that the company Tasyapi will complete the job successfully.

RS Minister Djordje Popovic said that every bridge, and especially this bridge on the Sava river near Sremska Raca, is important for the Republika Srpska itself.

“This will enable better communication and flow of goods and Raca will no longer be an obstacle in the good relations between RS and Serbia, but also between Bosnia and Serbia,” he added.

Bosnian Minister Mitrovic said that the common goal of the entire region is to build bridges and improve cooperation.

“That is what is important for the peoples of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska,” he said.

The Turkey-funded construction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway will be built as a ring in two directions: Kuzmin – Sremska Raca – Bijeljina, and Pozega – Kotroman, the border of Serbia with Bosnia.
