The institution of Bosnia’s international administrator urged citizens on Thursday to report any mistakes or irregularities in the registration process for voters abroad in Bosnia’s 2020 local election to the Central Election Commission (CEC) and any suspicion of criminal behaviour in the process to law enforcement and prosecutors.
N1 asked the Office of the High Representative (OHR), the institution of the international official overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement which ended the Bosnian war and contains the country’s Constitution, to comment on the numerous irregularities that were reported since the CEC decided to publish the list of registered voters abroad on its website for the first time ever at a session at the beginning of October.
The OHR welcomed the decision and urged citizens to take action if they find any irregularities.
“In this way, they contribute to the commendable efforts of the CEC to improve the transparency and integrity of the election process,” the OHR said.
On Tuesday, the CEC explained it came to the decision in light of numerous complaints about irregularities concerning the voter registration process in previous elections.
The institution also said it received an enormous number of complaints concerning irregularities in voting from abroad since the list was published and that it managed to review each one of them and took 27.960 names from the list so far.
There are 101,771 people registered as voting from abroad in the 2020 local election, which is to take place on November 15.
In the previous election in 2018, there were 77,814 names on that list.
