It's important for us that the Western Balkans is on the EU's agenda again, Bosnian prime minister Zoran Tegeltija said Friday after meeting with Oliver Varhelyi, EU's Enlargement Commissioner, adding that Bosnia is committed to gaining the candidate status in 2021.
“I reiterated that Bosnia belongs to the EU geographically and culturally and a large majority of our citizens support our accession and readiness to take all steps to speed up the EU accession process,” Tegeltija said.
Speaking about the European Commission's Progress Report for 2020, he said that the Council of Ministers (as the state government is formally known) was not formed in that period, that it was a time when reforms were not implemented, so there are positive assessments but also indications that the authorities did almost nothing in certain areas.
“The public should know that we have resolved the 12-year-old issue of the elections in Mostar, we have managed to implement the methodology for drafting the EU integration program, that the process of adopting the Public Administration Reform Strategy and the War Crimes Prosecution Strategy was blocked for more than two years,” Tegeltija noted adding that Bosnia will continue implementing the remaining reforms.
