Prosecutors form cases regarding election process irregularities

Bosnia’s Prosecutor’s Office said on Tuesday that it has formed cases regarding possible voter fraud after it received several complaints of irregularities in the election process from the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Monitoring the regularity of the election process, editing the final voter list and preventing abuses is the responsibility of the CEC, but if that institution finds out that potential criminal offences may be involved, then it informes the judicial bodies of Bosnia’s two semi-autonomous entities, the Federation (FBiH) and Republika Srpka (RS), and of the Brcko District about it, the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Four people were recently arrested in Brcko District for alleged abuse of personal data in the registration process for voters abroad.

The CEC said last week that it received an enormous number of complaints concerning irregularities after it recently published the list of registered voters abroad, while some of its members, political parties and international organisations urged the judiciary to get involved.

There are 101,771 people registered as voting from abroad in the 2020 local election, which is to take place on November 15.

In the previous election in 2018, there were 77,814 names on that list.
