Days after Sarajevo Canton introduced a mandatory measure of wearing the face masks outdoors, the authorities of the northwestern Una-Sana Canton (USK) imposed the same measure for their residents as of Saturday, in an attempt to contain the coronavirus spread.
The decision was passed on Friday, due to the increase in the number of newly reported coronavirus cases.
USK crisis management group said the upcoming cold weather sparks fears of further virus spread.
According to official statistics, Una-Sana Canton, the fourth most populated of ten cantons in Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) region, has 251 active Covid-19 patients, far less than Zenica-Doboj Canton (753), Tuzla Canton (368), Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (1,088) or Canton Sarajevo (778).
Bosnia confirmed a record daily count on Saturday with more than 700 new coronavirus infections across the country.
