SPÖ's Husagic: Vienna attack aimed against unity of people

The Vienna attack was aimed against the unity of people and people in general, integration coordinator for the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) Ahmed Husagic told N1, a day after what Austrian government called an Islamist terrorist attack that left four dead in the capital.

“The people who were in Vienna know that the part of the city where the attack took place is full of bars and restaurants, it happened a day before new restriction measures so the choice of the location was probably that one because there were many people outside. Even one of my friends happened to be there and she escaped with others to a nearby place,” said Husagic describing what happened in Vienna on Monday.

“We are all shocked,” he said speaking in N1's Newsroom live from Vienna.

According to Husagic who is a Bosnia-born politician in Austria, it is of utmost importance now to obey the recommendations issued by the police, which warned users not to share media and information related to the attack on social networks.

“It has been recommended to people not to leave their homes unless in case of urgent need. The terrorists’ goal is to bring in the fear and to divide society in order to radicalise certain groups for what they are doing”, according to Husagic.

He also said he was concerned about people from ex-Yugoslavia because such developments always leave consequences.

“I hope the residents of Vienna will recognise this was an act of individual and will not stigmatise the ones from that region,” he stressed.
