The current Dayton Peace Agreement interpretation in Bosina is not the interpretation intended in 1995 when it was signed and when it ended the bloody war in Bosnia, Valery Perry, a Western Balkans expert told N1 on Thursday.
In a documentary she made about it, Perry told N1 she explored the Dayton Agreement 25 years after the signing where she spoke to Bosnian citizens who told her they all believed that the Agreement stopped the war, but that it was not a good basis for state-building, but that they also hoped it would evolve.
In her opinion, the neighboring countries are also interfering and disrupting the interior politics in Bosnia. They are not doing anything to help Bosnia be a sovereign country, she said, adding that there were certain times when the country was heading in the right direction, but that policies have changed often, trying to take advantage for themselves over the people living in the country.
Speaking about the US, she said the “balkanization of America” is ever more present, especially over the past several months. It best describes the current political chaos in the US, she added.
In her opinion, no one is thinking of the dangerous consequences of this type of policy, noting that the Balkans has been existing in this chaos for decades and that it is falling deeper and deeper in it with years.
