Local elections in Bosnia are scheduled for 64 municipal councils in the Federation (FBiH) entity, 56 municipal assemblies in the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, 120 heads of municipalities in the country, 14 city councils in the FBiH, seven city assemblies in the RS, 22 mayors across the country and the Brcko District Assembly, said Head of the national election watchdog Zeljko Bakalar said Friday.
“A total of 543 political entities are participating in the local elections, of which 129 are political parties, 262 independent candidates, 72 coalitions, nine lists of independent candidates and 71 independent candidates belonging to national minorities. 30,809 candidates have been certified for the local elections,” Bakalar from the Central Election Commission (CEC) explained.
According to him, the central electoral roll has a total of 3,283,380 voters, of which 3,141,257 are regular voters. The watchdog also has the names of 17,058 voters who will vote via their regular mobile teams, he added.
“Election silence begins at seven o'clock Saturday and lasts until polling all stations are closed. During this period, political entities are prohibited from participating in public political activities, as well as media coverage of any activities related to the political campaign. Fines that can be imposed for violating election silence are monetary and range from 1,000 to 10,000 Bosnian marks for Parties, and from 1,000 to 5,000 marks for candidates,” Bakalar pointed out.
Polling stations will open on Sunday, at 7 am and close at 7 pm.
