A non-profit campaign that encouraged Bosnian citizens to cast their ballot in last weekend's local election has welcomed the citizens' decision to make a change, which was recorded in many local communities.

The campaign was led under the #YourVoteAlsoMatters slogan and was aimed to encourage the citizens to vote in the elections.

“Although we recorded lower turnout across Bosnia and Herzegovina, which we believe was caused by the pandemic, we believe that we have managed to popularise politics among the youth and make them interested in increased participation in the election process. We are particularly glad that our followers and persons who went through our training voted for the first time this year,” said campaign coordinator, Nermin Topovcic.

The non-partisan campaign was launched as a response to the 2018 election results and has since then gathered young people from 50 local communities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. They worked together on the education of the youth about the importance and competencies of local communities, media and political literacy, they designed election simulation games for high school students, etc.

“We congratulate the young candidates who were in majority on slates and wish them happiness in implementing their plans and programmes. The activities of #YourVoteAlsoMatters campaign will continue after the election, so the youth will resume their educating and other activities in Mostar as well,” said the campaign representatives.
