Police apprehend a group suspected of making illegal profit of 30mn marks

Several persons were apprehended in a police operation codenamed ‘Profit’ on Wednesday under suspicion of money laundering and making an illegal profit of 30 million marks (approx €15 million), according to Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspects include former Chairman of the Securities Commission, Hasan Celam, businessman Zijad Blekic and his associate Edin Dizdar.

The police operation carried out by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) was ordered by the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office and Court, after a several-month long investigation, according to spokesperson Azra Bavcic.

The officers raided several locations in the capital Sarajevo and central Bosnian towns Travnik and Breza used by individuals and legal entities suspected of being involved in organised crime, money laundering, frauds and abuse of power.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, a total of 18 persons is a subject of investigation in this case.
