Tito’s nuclear bunker, one of the rare facilities of this kind in former Yugoslavia and wider, is experiencing a new way of popularity – through music.
The historic site built in the last century south of Bosnian capital city Sarajevo, for the former Yugoslav President, his family and important officials, has become a part of the ‘Garden of Dreams presents Bosnia and Herzegovina’ project, aimed to present the most attractive sites across the country.
The underground city is located near the town Konjic, just on the spot that separates Bosnia’s north from the southern Herzegovina region.
In recent years, the bunker turned into a museum and has attracted many visitors from the country and abroad, who admired the interior of the complex.
“No doubt a sophisticated, modern sound preferred by Italian DJ and producer Lehar will perfectly fit in the ambience of this horseshoe-shaped hidden underground city,” said the Garden of Dreams management, adding that the DJ was thrilled by the idea to “mix” in Tito’s bunker.
“This happens once in a lifetime,” said the musician, expressing his gratitude for having an opportunity to perform at this “unique and incredible place” on December 17. His performance will be available online on the Garden of Dreams official channels.
The nuclear bunker was build at the foothill of the Zlatar Mountain in the late 1980s and, reportedly, its construction cost 4.6 billion American dollars.
Only 16 persons including Tito himself knew about the underground tunnels.
Its initial purpose was to provide protection to Tito, his family and closest associates in the case of a nuclear attack but as the bunker construction lasted for 26 years and was completed in 1979, Tito, whose health seriously deteriorated at that time never had a chance to step into this facility.
