According to the first preliminary results of the local vote in Mostar on Sunday presented by the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the main Croat party HDZ BiH has the lead in the central city zone ahead of the 'Coalition for Mostar' that consists of five political parties including the main Bosniak SDA party.
Commission President Zeljko Bakalar presented the first preliminary official election results in a press conference around midnight following the election day.
The election results based on some 20 percent of the counted ballots have shown that the HDZ BiH won 6,310 votes, the Coalition for Mostar 3,820, the Croat Republican Party (1,056) and the ‘Bh bloc’ coalition 902 votes.
The total of 52,865 voters (55%) cast their ballots on Sunday in the first election that the city of Mostar held in the past 12 years, the Central election Commission said earlier.
Polling stations opened at 7 am and closed 12 hours later.
Citizens elected 35 city councillors, with 13 candidates being elected in the central city zone and the remaining 22 candidates being elected in six other ethnically-based constituencies, meaning that Mostarians cast their votes on two ballots.
The central electoral roll for Mostar was concluded on 11 November 2020 with the total of 100,864, who could cast their vote at 150 regular polling stations, 16 polling stations for voters in absentia and through 20 mobile teams for Covid-19 patients.
The Central Election Commission accredited the total of 361 observers and the City Election Commission of Mostar 1,356 observers of the political entities.
No incident has been reported on the election day, the police earlier confirmed.
